An eye exam involves a series of tests with various instruments to evaluate your vision, eye health, and potential eye diseases. As an important part of maintaining your eye health, we will look at some of the following during your eye exam:
- How well you can see at various distances (visual acuity) in order to determine your prescription for eyeglass or contact lenses
- How your pupils respond to light in order to reveal any underlying problems
- Deterioration of peripheral vision or elevated eye pressure (tonometry) that may indicate glaucoma
- Eye movement to ensure properly functioning eye muscles (extraocular)
- Front part of your eye to test for cataracts, scars or scratches on your cornea
- Your retina and optical nerve for signs of disease
